The four-day long festival of Chhath (Chhath 2020) has started with bathing. Today its second day i.e. Kharna is being celebrated. Kharna is celebrated on the fifth day of Kartik Shukla. Kharna means purification. It is also called Lohanda. There is a tradition of making special offerings of Chhath Puja on the day of Kharna. Chhath festival is considered very difficult and it is done very carefully. It is said that whoever follows the rules of Chhath, all their wishes are fulfilled. On this day, women and Chhath fasting take bath in the morning and wear clean clothes and apply vermilion from nose to forehead. On the day of Kharna, the fasting fasts for the whole day and in the evening prepare prasad by making rice and jaggery kheer on a wooden stove. Then after worshiping the Sun God, the fasting women take this prasad. After their food, this prasad is distributed among the rest of the family members. Only after consuming this prasad, the fasting for 36 hours begins for the fasting women. It is believed that only after Kharna Puja, Goddess Shashthi (Sixth Maiya) arrives in the house.
चार दिनों के महापर्व छठ (Chhath 2020) की शुरुआत नहाय-खाय से हो चुकी है. आज इसका दूसरा दिन यानी खरना (Kharna) मनाया जा रहा है. खरना कार्तिक शुक्ल की पंचमी को मनाया जाता है. खरना का मतलब होता है शुद्धिकरण. इसे लोहंडा भी कहा जाता है. खरना के दिन छठ पूजा का विशेष प्रसाद बनाने की परंपरा है. छठ पर्व बहुत कठिन माना जाता है और इसे बहुत सावधानी से किया जाता है. कहा जाता है कि जो भी व्रती छठ के नियमों का पालन करती हैं उनकी सारी मनोकामनाएं पूरी होती हैं. इस दिन महिलाएं और छठ व्रती सुबह स्नान करके साफ सुथरे वस्त्र धारण करती हैं और नाक से माथे के मांग तक सिंदूर लगाती हैं. खरना के दिन व्रती दिन भर व्रत रखती हैं और शाम के समय लकड़ी के चूल्हे पर साठी के चावल और गुड़ की खीर बनाकर प्रसाद तैयार करती हैं. फिर सूर्य भगवान की पूजा करने के बाद व्रती महिलाएं इस प्रसाद को ग्रहण करती हैं. उनके खाने के बाद ये प्रसाद घर के बाकी सदस्यों में बांटा जाता है. इस प्रसाद को ग्रहण करने के बाद ही व्रती महिलाओं का 36 घंटे का निर्जला उपवास शुरू हो जाता है. मान्यता है कि खरना पूजा के बाद ही घर में देवी षष्ठी (छठी मइया) का आगमन हो जाता है.
